Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional

After much moaning from hubby I went to the opticians yesterday and had a eye test, I came out of the exam and said to hubby ‘that’s it, I am not going to see any more doctors/dentists/opticians because all they do is tell me nasty things.’ This time I am being referred to the eye hospital because they have found a lump on the back of my eye. I was blissfully happy in my ignorance before the diagnose of dead bits of brain, lack of blood to a bit of my heart and now lumpy, bumpy things on the back of my eyes!

Because of the strange weather we have been having our strawberries flowered and fruited again but lack of sun has left us with lots of green ones, so I have made picked strawberries from this site, now we just have to wait and see what they are like.

The Rain …… It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80’s arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.
While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor’s appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry.
The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health.
He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer’s Disease.
As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late.
He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.
I was surprised, and asked him, ‘And you still go every morning, even though she doesn’t know who you are?’
He smiled as he patted my hand and said,
‘She doesn’t know me, but I still know who she is.’
I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought,
‘That is the kind of love I want in my life.’
True love is neither physical, nor romantic.
True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.
With all the jokes and fun that are in e-mails, sometimes there is one that comes along that has an important message. This one I thought I could share with you.
The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

‘Life isn’t about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain. We are all getting older – Tomorrow may be our turn’……

“Dear me, I believe I am becoming a god. An emperor ought at least to die on his feet.”

Vespasian (9-79 AD), Roman emperor (on his death bed)

I have watched the 3rd series of Fringe (on TV on demand), I do enjoy a bit of sci-fi and am now watching Skins

As I write this it’s 8.30am and I have already pegged out three loads of washing, swept the yards, brought the still flowering chilli and pepper plants up from the green house, ( the weather forecast says the cold weather is on it’s way this week and I don’t want to lose them) the kitchen looks like a jungle. I have also made a pound of spiced sugar, lovely to cook with, and so simple to make.

1lb sugar
Zest of one orange and one lemon
1 vanilla pod
6 cloves
Teaspoon of nutmeg
Teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 fresh bay leaves

Put the whole lot into a liquidiser and whiz until everything is copped and mixed together. Spread the sugar out on some wax paper to dry and put in an air tight jar, it will keep for 12 months.

Then I made a jug of my ‘No sod off cold I don’t want you’ juice, oh OK then lemon, cloves and honey mixed into boiling water, I have a sore throat and earache.

At last, a politician with some guts. Theresa May has said the human rights act needs to be looked at, and she is right. It is being used in some cases just to take the P**. Only a couple of months ago there was a report that prisoners were saying that being locked up for a crime was an act against human rights because it stopped them having a family life, you can’t protect your property for fear of the intruder suing you for violating his human rights, the list goes on. We do need a human rights act to defend people who are truly in need, those truly under fear for their lives or truly being mistreated and only if they are innocent, and when they have sorted that one out can they have a look at the health and safety law please.

august

“August rushes by like desert rainfall,
A flood of frenzied upheaval,
Expected,
But still catching me unprepared.
Like a matchflame
Bursting on the scene,
Heat and haze of crimson sunsets.
Like a dream
Of moon and dark barely recalled,
A moment,
Shadows caught in a blink.
Like a quick kiss;
One wishes for more
But it suddenly turns to leave,
Dragging summer away.”

Well do I?

You become more reflective in midlife. You start pondering the “big” questions: what is life, why am I here, and how much Healthy Choice ice cream can I eat before it’s no longer a healthy choice.

The dress after I had D-I-Y-ed it

And just for Kate, oh ok for anyone who is interested here are the shoes, (please don’t look at the ripped paper under the windowsill), and my hat thingy and yes it does look better on the elephant! Now do I need a bag? I am having a crisis over the whole bag thing. I can shove my hanky up my sleeve and anything else I need will be in the car, then there’s what you do with the bag when it comes to the sit down meal. I have taken bags to there types of occasions before and never know what to do with it. I have in the past hung it on the back of my chair only to have the waiter fall over it, I have tried to balance it on my knees, which leaves me looking and feeling very uncomfortable, and I have thrown it under the table, only to end up crawling under the table to find it at the end of the meal. So the big question people is ‘To bag or not to bag’ I need help on this one.

We didn’t do a lot over the weekend, hubby has an awful cough, but the bites have gone down, (did I tell you about the bites)? While we were in Wales, (for the memorial) we took nicey niecey for a walk along the river and hubby got bitten to death by Horseflies, (I think that’s what mother-in-law called them). He is always being bitten and they always go funny. Anyway back to the point we didn’t do a lot over the weekend but we did go and see sis-in-law do the Race for Life, (well she walked it anyway). I may do it myself next year, it’s been ages since I did anything like that. I have done charity fun runs in the past, well it’s a thought.
